Sleep Well With Sleepezy Hello and welcome Power Nap, & Still Sleep At NightDecember 12, 2007
There's a lot of confusion around taking naps. Some people are afraid to nap as they think it may keep them awake at night. Napping, done properly, can increase your energy, reduce stress and make you feel more alert without affecting your night time slumbers. Welcome to the "power nap". Napping has usually been thought of as being the habit of lazy people. However it's been discovered that napping can increase your work output and a 20 minute nap is more restful than sleeping an extra 20 minutes at night. Power naps can fit into your workplace routine if you work in a place that breaks for lunch. Even if you can go and recline in your car for 15 minutes, this will refresh you for the rest of the day. There are 2 secrets to power napping. The first is always nap before 3 o'clock. This will have minimal impact on the circadian rhythm. The second is not letting yourself drop into the deep sleep phase of sleep. Generally if you time your nap for 15-30 minutes this won't be a problem as it takes longer than that to reach the deep sleep stage. However, if you're severely sleep deprived, this may happen sooner. How can you make sure you wake up in 30 minutes? You can set an alarm, however this tends to keep most people awake. Napping is supposed to be a spontaneous activity and waiting for a noisy alarm doesn't really help us relax. Fortunately there is an answer and we'll look at how to be an expert napper a bit further down. Last month I started to test the "Sleep Tracks" product. I've been using it for about 4 weeks now.
Sleep Tracks has different solutions for different sleep problems. Sleep Tracks is for people who can't fall asleep, can't stay asleep, take sleeping pills, have restless legs syndrome, have anxiety or an overactive mind or wake up too early in the morning. There is a main "Insomnia Buster" track which is designed to retrain your mind to return to being able to fall asleep naturally. There are also two actual sleep inducing tracks, one called "Fall Asleep" which is designed for those who have trouble dropping off and another called "Whole Night" which makes sure you stay asleep if you wake frequently of wake too early in the morning. These tracks can also address sleep problems due to fibromyalgia or chronic pain and there's no need to use headphones Sleep Tracks has 5 entertaining online videos with proven sleep strategies
There is also a bonus "Power Nap" track which puts you in a light sleep for 20 minutes and then wakes you up so you'll feel fantastic. Sleep Tracks assumes insomnia is a learned behaviour and that after listening for a while, you should be able to sleep well without the tracks - your brain will have been retrained to sleep naturally. Fantastic! This product allowed me to sleep well even though I was away from home, sleeping in a strange bed with a nasty cold (I used the fall asleep track). I have to give this one 10/10! Sleep Tracks!
Catch you next month, take care! Wendy
