Sleep Well With Sleepezy

Sleepezy News, February
February 08, 2005

A new sleep medicine was approved by the FDA in December. Its called Lunesta and is manufactured by a company called Sepracor. What's exiting about Lunesta is that it can help both short term and chronic insomnia which means that it remains effective even when taken over time.

Lunesta is non narcotic and claims to help people stay asleep rather than just helping them to fall asleep. To date there are no known risks or side effects.

Lunesta should be available soon if not already. I'll be monitoring its progress and will let you know of any new developments.

If you're feeling tired during the day it's natural to assume you need more sleep. But if you're already sleeping 6-8 hours per night, it could be your quality of sleep that's the problem. If so, don't waste more of your life in bed, improve the sleep you're already having. Too Much Sleep goes into this in more detail.

Today's article by Ebe Heng follows this theme. 3 Ways to Cure Insomnia While Sleeping Less!

This month's frequently asked question. Shirley from Essex in the UK asks...

"I've been a poor sleeper most of my life and take medication about three times a week. My doctor wants to wean me off it but I'm terrified of never being able to have a good night's sleep."

Shirley I know where you're coming from believe me, I've been there.

Has your doctor offered any alternative? Today there are some good natural alternatives available. Most of the non prescription sleep medications today are based on anti histamines. These cause drowsiness and can tide you over the withdrawal period.

Also available are herbal type remedies that work well for some. Try and relax with the idea of reducing your medication and know that your body and sleep rhythm will adjust soon. Visit our page on natural sleep medications  to find out more about non prescription medications available. also be sure to brush up on stress reduction and relaxation while you're there.
