How Can Qigong Help Me Sleep Better?

What is qigong?

spanish

Qigong (pronounced chee-gong and also known as quigong, chi gong, chi gung, qui gong) is a series of ancient Chinese exercises which use breathing and imagination or visualization to improve all areas of human health, physical, mental and spiritual. It has been practiced in China for over five thousand years.

These days it is widely accepted that Chinese medicine has a lot to offer that our traditional western medicine does not. Many doctors and clinics in the west are now recommending qigong to their patients. Not as an alternative to western medicine, but more as a complementary companion to our drugs and surgery.

Western medicine aims to cure sickness and its symptoms whereas Chinese medicine is more about prevention of disease and enabling us to heal ourselves.

The Chinese believe all sickness is caused by blockages in the chi (or qui) energy in the human body. Qigong not only brings more energy into the body, it also balances the energies. If the energy remains blocked or out of balance for a long period of time, this can lead to disease in the body.

Qigong allows the body to heal itself by putting the body's yin and yang energy into balance. It can also heal us when we are sick. It is gentle and relaxing and very easy to practice. Even ten minutes a day is beneficial and you will find yourself feeling calm and energized.

Qigong exercise

Qigong is a lot easier to learn than tai chi and is a more gentle form of exercise. It comprises breathing, body posture and visualization. It can be performed standing, sitting or lying down making it very suitable for sick, disabled or elderly people.

How can qigong help me to sleep better?

There are several ways qigong can help us sleep soundly and more deeply. It is an excellent "stress reducer". I have personally found it to be equal or even superior to yoga in this way. And because it can be so simple to practice (and I'm rather lazy!) Its quite easy to find a few minutes a day to do one or two of the exercises.

Stress reduction is an instantaneous result of practicing qigong but there are other benefits. If you have trouble sleeping due to chronic pain or discomfort, even back pain, qigong can help here too. Qigong may be practiced standing, sitting, lying down, walking or even sitting in front of a computer!

Do you suffer with narcolepsy? Troubled with restless legs syndrome? Are you depressed? These are all areas that qigong can help. It will balance the body’s energy and gently help the self healing of virtually any complaint.

Sounds to good to be true!

The human body is actually designed to heal itself. Trouble is it gets stuffed full of junk food, cigarette smoke and exhaust fumes. It is subject to stresses from job, neighbors or relatives. It gets plunked on the couch and not moved for hours! No wonder it gets sick!

"Qigong For People on the Go" is a book which has distilled all the ancient wisdom of this healing process into a simple easy to follow set of exercises. The author has based it on her amazing experiences with this healing technique.

One medical doctor says "Qigong is as important as antibiotics and immunizations"

"Qigong For People on the Go" is a downloadable e-book so you can start straight away. Its very easy to follow (and it's very reasonably priced)

What causes energy blockages?

Blockages can be caused by many things, not all of them under our control. Emotional stress, bad diet, changes in the weather, pollution and injury are some causes. Our modern lifestyle, fast foods and insufficient time to relax all contribute to energy blockages.
