The Secret to Dealing With Stress Related Insomnia

Are you having trouble sleeping because of stress?

I used to have severe stress related insomnia. The problem was I knew stress was causing my insomnia but I didn't know how to deal with it. When you're lying in bed tossing and turning it's very hard to calm your mind.

When I finally discovered the connection between stress and sleep I worked out a way to overcoming insomnia caused by stress.

If you're having trouble sleeping because of stress, you can't afford to wait until you go to bed to deal with it. Stress has to be attacked at the source when it occurs.

The best way to reduce stress of all types is to recognise it. There are certain symptoms of stress that tell you when it is building up in your body. These symptoms may include faster breathing, feelings of anger and tightness around the solar plexus.

As soon as you're aware of feeling stressed, the absolute best way to deal with it is to physically remove yourself from the situation which is causing it. Even though stress is all in the mind, you need to perform a physical action like walking away. The cause is irrelevant; whether it be another person, your computer or even a boring meeting (boredom is another form of stress), just get up and leave.

If walking away is not possible, for instance you may be driving in heavy traffic, the second best stress buster is deep breathing. Breath in for 4 counts, hold for 2 and out for 4. Do this for at least 5 minutes and your stress will melt away sufficiently to avoid your stress levels increasing dangerously.

So deal with stress as it happens. Don't wait until you're ready to go to sleep. otherwise you'll have a restless night. Stress management is a day by day necessity. Practice it faithfully and watch your stress related insomnia melt away.
