What, in your opinion is the main cause of insomnia?

Well in my opinion the main thing that keeps us tossing and turning at night is worrying about not going to sleep.

Sure there might be other reasons for sleeplessness; chronic pain, restless legs, stress, partner disturbance, too much coffee....

But at the end of the day you're lying there worrying about how you're going to get through the next day if you don't get to sleep right now!

Worry and stress are by far the main causes of sleeplessness, and the sad part is, the more we worry, the more awake we feel. But what can we do about it?

We have to empty our conscious minds of worrying and stressful thoughts (yeah right! easier said than done!)
Worry in particular can become a habit and like any habit is very difficult to break (just ask us smokers, um... ex smokers out there!) But it can be done. You have to train your mind either to let go of a thought or replace one thought with another.

Natural aids for sleep

Sometimes even the best sleepers need a little help. It could be an exam looming, family problems or whatever.
Many of us don't want to take sleep medications as they're worried about becoming dependent on them. Well not all sleep medications are addictive, but we'll get into that next month.

For now we'll just have a look at the natural approach. There's good and bad news here too. Drug free medications are not controlled by the FDA. There is a common view that because of this, all herbal and drug free remedies are safe. This is not the case!
Another myth is that natural medications are not potent enough to work well. This also is untrue!

Ok, so how does the average Joe navigate through all the conflicting information out there and find a safe and natural alternative that works well? Choose a product that has been tried and tested and that has been around for a good while is my advice. Check the articles below...
